This is the third week of the month and that means two more gallery crawls this week.
>> The first gallery crawl is on Thursday, when the galleries and art venues around the 7th Street corridor have their openings and extended hours. As always, these events are free and open to the public (see their website for more info). Of particular interest are the new artists being showcased at Zenith Gallery and the 7th Annual All-Media Exhibition at Touchstone Gallery, curated by Brita Konau. She chose 67 pieces by 65 artists from all over the U.S. for the exhibition. If you can’t make it Thursday, you can still see the exhibit through March 6.
The Thursday gallery crawl might be a good chance to catch “Sharon Louden: The Motley Tails” at Numark Gallery, as that impressive show closes on Feb. 19.
>> Thursday is also the opening reception for Olive Ayhens’ show at The Watkins Gallery of American University, from 5-7 p.m. Ayhens’ paintings and watercolors are profoundly influenced by her environment. In 1999, she participated in the World Views Residency Program at the World Trade Center. The paintings in this exhibition focus on the work she made around the time of that residency until the present. A painting from the exhibition, “Cat in the Night,” is shown above. The show is up until March 5.
