Although activists might have complained and created a protest website and the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted to oppose the toll increase on the Dulles Toll Road, it was to no avail. The Post reports that the toll increase has been approved, increasing the maximum toll possible to $1.25 from $.85. The money would be use to help fund an extension of the Orange Line to Dulles Airport.

The Virginia transportation secretary noted that congestion on highways on northern Virginia is a problem and “the region clearly needs this project.” We were interested to find the “No Toll Increase” website is sponsored by a group advocating the end of tolls on the highway and the creation of a bus rapid transit system instead of rail to alleviate congestion saying the “rail-centric approach to public transit by WMATA” is “outdated”.
