Residents of Logan Circle, Shaw, U Street, Capitol Hill, Deanwood, or Anacostia are probably familiar with the papers of Capital Community News. Hill Rag, DC North, and East of the River have long provided neighborhood news by covering local politics in depth, listing prices for houses recently sold throughout the city, announcing the launch of new business ventures, and highlighting the uniqueness of the neighborhoods within their respective beats.
The papers, tabloid-sized free monthly publications, are distributed widely via curbside boxes and local businesses. Unfortunately, finding the articles online has long been a problem; the papers were previously only available to download in full as PDF files. Recently, the Capital Community News website was relaunched, providing a “solution” to the question of online access. Articles from the three associated papers, beginning with the February 2005 issue, are available to download as separate PDF files. They still appear in full color (unlike their print counterparts) complete with advertisements. Still, with smaller downloads, reading the papers online has become much easier.
