Precisely one week after toxic mercury was discovered in the halls of Cardozo High School in lower Columbia Heights, something apparently not-so-unusual has happened: They found mercury again!
After last week’s incident, the EPA moved in and scoured the school, the Metropolitan Police caught the pranksters, and the feds declared the site Superfund-worthy. What happened today? That isn’t clear just yet. Down on the street a little while ago, this DCist asked a news producer what was going on. Same thing, he said. Possibly left over from last week. Which seems hard to believe.
Interestingly, the Post reports that they didn’t evacuate the school this time. Nor is it clear if the place will be shut down again. But other reports say this is “worse than last week.” Whichever. At least now we can call it the “mercurial” Cardozo High School, can’t we?
The accompanying photo is actually from last week, but it pretty much looks the same now as it did then. Maybe a bit more snow, but not much.
