Sooner State Syndrome in Near Southeast: When the Unassigned Lands were opened to settlement by President Benjamin Harrison in 1889, the so-called Sooners staked their claim and Oklahoma City rose in a matter of days. Though the process is somewhat different, there’s a land rush near the site of what will become the new baseball stadium for the Nationals off South Capitol Street. The Post reports that the city doesn’t want the stadium to sit there and be stagnant element. Adjacent development would help stabilize Near Southeast, and a number of developers are examining every parcel.

A stadium, drawing large crowds 90 or so days a year but dark for long stretches of time, will not alone revitalize a run-down area unless it is supported by solid planning.
Unexpected Fines. Remember when the District installed new stationery photo radar cameras around the city this winter and they were issuing only warnings during a grace period? Well, the W.Times reports that at one camera in Northeast, the District was actually issuing fines.
