Today we open with an interesting, if not unsurprising story — a poll has found that increasing traffic anxieties are pushing commuters to demand more and more transportation options. WJLA is reporting that the poll, conducted over the phone and involving 1,263 people, found that 60 percent of commuters see a pressing need for a Metrorail extension to Dulles, while 70 percent would vote to widen the Beltway and another 70 percent would pay for toll lanes if they reduced traffic. Of course — and this is something area politicians know all too well — will those commuters be singing the same tune when the bills for these ambitious projects actually start coming through?
