Editor’s Note: DCist Good Deed is an occasional feature in which we turn the blogging spotlight on some of the organizations and people who work to give something back. If you know of a good cause that needs a little light, send it this way.

In the midst of the many hurricane relief efforts happening around town, the nonprofit Martha’s Table quietly celebrated 25 years of helping some of the city’s neediest citizens. DCist was lucky enough to attend Tuesday night’s small gathering at the Martha’s Table headquarters on 14th Street. We’ve been to our share of high profile fundraisers and galas this year, and the spirit radiating from the small room where the reception was held was perhaps the most genuine we’ve ever felt.

For 25 years, Martha’s Table has clothed, fed and educated the District’s poorest. Their mobile soup kitchen serves close to 1,500 meals a day, 365 days a year. Their thrift store, Martha’s Outfitters, provides low cost (and often free) clothing to those who need it. In addition, they offer day care and free after school programs that service the city’s risk youth population. At the reception we spoke with a dedicated bunch of staffers and volunteers, all of whom recognized the problems facing the city, but saw nothing but the potential for change. The organizations past president, Veronica Parke, put it best, “We don’t focus on problems, we focus on potential.”

So how can you help?
