Looking for a hook on which to base your entire weekend? We have three words for you: Jonathan Safran Foer. Foer will be spending this weekend here in D.C., his hometown, where his alma mater Georgetown Day School keeps his debut novel Everything Is Illuminated on the reading lists.

Friday night, you may want to begin the weekend by heading out to the Loews Dupont Circle 5 to catch a screening of Everything Is Illuminated, the movie adapted from Foer’s first novel of the same name. Starring Elijah Wood as “Jonathan Safran Foer”, there is already a lot of strong buzz surrounding this movie, including praise for its first-time director Liev Schrieber, who penned the adaptation. A great deal of advance press is also coming in for Eugene Hutz, the frontman for much-beloved gypsy-rock combo Gogol Bordello, who is making his feature-film debut playing the role of Alex, Foer’s Ukrainian guide who speaks English as if taught by a doped-up thesaurus.
