Alert readers might have noticed that our newly released podcast is available as a BitTorrent download. That’s right: thanks to the excellent Blog Torrent software package from Downhill Battle Labs, DCist can now offer BitTorrent tracking. The geekier of us at DCist are beside ourselves with excitement.

For the tech-averse, this simply means that we can offer speedy downloads of large files without reducing the DCist server to a bubbling pile of silicon. Blog Torrent makes it easy, offering one-click downloading for BitTorrent neophytes and a traditional .torrent file for those with the software already installed. If you’re curious to learn more about BitTorrent, its wikipedia entry is a good place to start.
