Admit it: the warm early autumn weather has tempted you to rock those white pants and that seersucker blazer just one more time (you swear!). We know — we’ve seen similar lapses all over town. But this morning’s undeniably chilly temps were enough to prompt even the most stalwart flip-flop-phile succumb to a more seasonally appropriate option. So suck it up and let the linen go. And then cancel your weekend plans and grab your credit cards — you’ve got some shopping to do. Below DCist rounds up the best ways to blow your paycheck and cover those naked hangers.
Crafty Bastards Arts & Crafts Fair – On Saturday, head to Western Market in Adams Morgan from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. to check out unique items like dear birthday t-shirts (depicting a deer eating birthday cake — hmm) and india*romeo‘s yarn flower pins. And we’re pretty sure you won’t find Liz Carroll‘s dead Elvis statues at IKEA. But DCist has to wonder: where will this event move to when all the empty lots in Columbia Heights are converted into buildings?
Arts on the Avenue – This Alexandria festival is celebrating it’s tenth year of arts, crafts and music from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday. If the 200 craft vendors and kiddie activities aren’t enough, you can start rebuilding your sense of self worth after you got passed over for a spot on Martha Stewart’s Apprentice by entering the pie baking contest. Because you know your strawberry rhubarb will smoke the competition.
Tysons Expansion – Exactly how much mall is too much mall? Is it when you have two gigantic retail structures under the same name? No way! What about when you add yet another wing to said shopping entity? Apparently not. The retail behemoth known as Tysons Corner Center today through Sunday will hold grand opening festivities for its expansion, which features more than 30 new stores such as Laila Rowe and H&M.
Unsung/offline – Our favorite indie designer website is going offline. Don’t worry — this is a good thing. On Saturday from 12-6 p.m., Unsung will open its showroom (2412 18th St. NW) to local shoppers. Overbooked? Don’t worry — Unsung plans to do this on the first Saturday of every month.
