We were contacted by a reader who points out that some people on Livejournal have been pondering a rather perplexing advertisement from page 13 of today’s Express.
The ad is for The Grove at Arlington, a new condo development a hop and skip across the river. The ad looks normal enough, spare an errant headline that is causing a stir: “Suburban Housing Developments are Conformist Political Death Traps.” When we called the number listed, the man there told us that an ad agency had put the ad together and he thought that it was the “slogan for the week.” He also pointed out that they were located one mile from the Pentagon and three miles from downtown D.C., seemingly insinuating that this development may not be “suburban.”
What do you think? Misguided attempt at advertising humor, or the work of a subversive employee? Is Arlington considered suburban? And most importantly, are suburban developments “Conformist Political Death Traps”?
