…is exactly what we hope to hear sometime down the line. No, seriously.
The folks behind the Pulitzer Prize — journalism’s most prestigious award — are adding “Online Journalism” to their 14 existing categories for the prize. It seems that they have become aware of this thing called the internets, and are beginning to recognize that many of the country’s most prominent newspapers have expanded their coverage and features online (yes, Posties, we mean you) enough to merit their own distinction.
Of course, those behind-the-times news fascists demand that online submissions include content also published in their print editions, thus effectively dropping DCist from consideration. On the brighter side, the categories of breaking news reporting and breaking news photography can be exclusively in online content, so there may still be hope.
It looks like the deadline for submissions is February 1, 2006. Anyone have any Pulitzer-quality breaking news they’d like to offer us? Anything?
