Yesterday WMATA unveiled the new voice of the Metro: Randi Miller’s dulcet tones will soon be the ones gently reminding you not to crowd, lean on or get caught in the doors.
But all this door-centrism got us thinking: Metro doesn’t just need a new voice, it needs a new message. It might be too late to influence the transit agency, but we can still have a little internet-based fun of our own. So consider this a gentle reminder/swift kick in the pants about the contest we announced yesterday. We want to hear your own Metro messages, tailored to convey the information that riders really need to know. Send your sound files to dcistopensdoors (at) gmail (dot) com. We’ll put the best ones online, then ask readers to vote for their favorite in comments. The winner gets a stylish and oh-so-sought-after DCist t-shirt.
Don’t worry about sound quality, format or size — we can take care of all that stuff. And if you’d like to remain anonymous, that’s fine, too. Just fire up your favorite sound editor, scream something about the escalators into your laptop’s terrible little microphone, and email it to us. It’s that simple. But do plan to get your submission(s) in by the end of the weekend — we’ll be posting the entries early next week.
