We have to give Montgomery County props — they’ll defend the First Amendment to the death, no matter how tasteless the reason.

NBC 4 is reporting that county officials are ordering all security guards for the county’s libraries to undergo further training on the First Amendment after a recent incident where they tried to stop a library patron from using the public computers to view some XXX-rated material. Apparently Montgomery County has no objection to such viewing, though they do ask that patrons use “privacy screens” if others are put off by the naked men and women in compromising positions.

We’re all about freedom of speech, thought, and inquiry, but we try to be tasteful about it. Porn in a public library? It’s one thing to try and sneak a peek at a Playboy as a teenager, but using public computers to Google “Jenna Jameson” is just nasty.
