Thanks to Wonkette for the tip that a “Stand Up for Denmark!” rally scheduled for lunchtime tomorrow outside the Danish Embassy looks to be a star-studded affair for the wacky world of D.C. political punditry.

Christopher Hitchens, no doubt feeling his way for the keyboard through a thick cloud of indignant, hawkish cigarette smoke, was the first to type out the call to arms stand around outside the building in a docile manner:

Please be outside the Embassy of Denmark, 3200 Whitehaven Street (off Massachusetts Avenue) between noon and 1 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 24. Quietness and calm are the necessities, plus cheerful conversation. Danish flags are good, or posters reading “Stand By Denmark” and any variation on this theme (such as “Buy Carlsberg/ Havarti/ Lego”) The response has been astonishing and I know that the Danes are appreciative. But they are an embassy and thus do not of course endorse or comment on any demonstration. Let us hope, however, to set a precedent for other cities and countries. Please pass on this message to friends and colleagues.

The Pro-Denmark gathering has started to gain momentum throughout the blogosphere, with heavyweights like Andrew Sullivan, Glenn Reynolds, and our own DCeiver helping to spread the word. Never ones to be left out of a good party, DCist is here to do our part.

Whatever our individual views on the so-called Intoonfada issue, Danes in general, political violence, or Carlsberg beer, we certainly join in Wonkette’s enthusiasm for a bit of the old liquid lunch outside in the sunshine. Bring along a fifth of excellent Scotch, and we’d wager you’ve got a great chance of snapping a photo with Hitchens himself. So remember kids, tag those Flickr photos with DCist, and let the good times roll!
