Break out the AmEx black card – Barney’s Co-Op has moved in.

Barney’s Co-Op yesterday opened at 3040 M St. NW, welcoming fashion conscious shoppers with discerning taste and deep pockets. The Co-Op’s M Street location was the temporary home of the Ralph Lauren store before it moved into its new digs on Wisconsin Avenue, and it has since been transformed into a modern space with a loft-like atmosphere.

On previous trips to high-end stores, we’ve noticed the rudeness of sales associates increases exponentially with the price of the clothes, so we were surprised and relieved to find that Co-Op employees were genuinely warm and friendly. It made us want to buy things. Well, the merchandise made us want to buy things, but the sales associates did not change our mind about that.

While the ladies will enjoy items like light spring blazers with mismatched buttons by Trovata and polka dot jersey dresses Ella Moss, let’s be honest – women have it easy, at least shopping wise, in D.C. Guys…not so much. District men who enjoy fashion but refuse to call themselves metrosexuals should check out the lower level of the Co-Op, which features everything from Marc Jacobs seersucker ties to skull-embroidered t-shirts from Left Field. And for those of you who do embrace the metro moniker (and don’t mind spending $40 on a Co-Op brand basic t-shirt), the Co-Op features a range of testosterone-friendly face and body products and man purses.

Co-Op also recently opened a location at 5471-C Wisconsin Ave. in Chevy Chase. Do you plan to check it out?
