Blogs may not be worth a damn in the larger scheme of things, but at least we can chalk this one up to having some influence on the mainstream media — WTOP has added a comments feature to their stories.
Called WTOP TalkBack, the feature is much the same to our lively comments section, the only difference being that much like the Post before them, WTOP has been smart enough to run all submitted comments through a moderator. For a comment to be posted to a story, it must meet the rather stringent guidelines established in WTOP’s Message Board Policies, which encourage commenters to be “nice…reasonable…intelligent” while refraining from personal attacks or hate speech, suggestive or offensive language, the use of uppercaps, and mean-spirited sarcasm. And they call those comments?
WTOP will regret this decision the minute Jonathan Rees catches wind that there’s one place in the online universe that hasn’t banned him and his, ummm, thought-provoking rants and raves.
