It was 45 years ago today that the District of Columbia took one step towards fully enjoying the democratic rights granted to all Americans — on this day in 1961, the 23rd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified by the states. The amendent grants the District the right to choose electors for president and vice president.
So yeah, District residents still suffer the daily injustice of being denied voting representatives, but in the larger scheme of things, being able to vote for president and vice president is something to be recognized and celebrated. D.C. Vote is doing just that tonight by partnering with the American Constitution Society Lawyer Chapter and sponsoring a happy hour at Eyebar, located at 1716 Eye Street, NW. The festivities kick off at 6 p.m.
