Most of the time when we’re looking for our excerpts, our goal is to present to you a few unusual but generally harmless crimes, the execution of which makes us, and hopefully you, chuckle. But poring over the crime reports is enlightening, reminding us how many awful things happen in a city each day and the lengths to which some people are prepared to go for small financial gain. Today, we give some time to crimes that are more perplexing than funny.
MONTELLO AVE., 1400 block, NE, 3:30 p.m. March 10 to 4:30 p.m. April 1. Appliances, cabinetry and sinks were stolen from a residence entered by breaking a rear window.
TODD PL., 1-99 block, NE, 10:30 a.m. April 1 to noon April 3. Copper piping was stolen from a residence.
IRVING ST., 1400 block, NW, 12:41 a.m. April 6. Ten males attacked a pedestrian and robbed him of a wallet.
SEVENTH AND R STREETS, NW, 1:45 p.m. April 2. Two men robbed a male of a security uniform, shoes and a cellphone at a bus stop.
CRITTENDEN ST., 1-99 block, NW, 1 p.m. April 5 to 2 p.m. April 6. A case of water was taken from a place of worship entered by prying a rear door.
SHERIDAN ST., 300 block, NW, 9:30 a.m. April 2 to 11:30 a.m. April 4. Three roasts, 20 pounds of pork chops, 24 pounds of bacon, two turkeys, spare ribs and eight pounds of shrimp were taken from a locked garage entered by force.
DANBURY ST., 1-99 block, SW, 6 p.m. March 26 to 2 p.m. March 27. Copper pipes and a water heater were taken from a home under construction.
