FRIDAY:
>> Nation really is going to shut its doors for good one of these nights, but not before stacking the calendar with old school giants like Grandmaster Flash. This is the guy who only, you know, defined Bronx rap and hip-hop in the 1970s with his “Quick Mix Theory.” Hell, it’s probably worth the price of admission if Flash only trots out two songs — just as long as those songs are “White Lines” and “The Message.” Not to say that Flash hasn’t been busy lately: He’s got a radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio called “The Flash Mash” and a book deal with Doubleday. His set will kick off late, after the dance competition scheduled for 9 p.m. finishes up.
>> Rob Corddry’s new film, Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story, has received largely mixed reviews across the board — the consensus seems to be that the mockumentary about a paintball team has its moments, but doesn’t rise to comedy gold. Having not tested well enough for a wide theatrical release, the filmmakers have targeted just a handful of individual theaters across the country, and the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse is one of them. Since this is sure to be the sort of film that will only get funnier the more you drink, we feel comfortable recommending this special screening as a solid option for your Friday night. 9:50 p.m., $5.50.
>> It’s shaping up to be a beautiful weekend, so we have a feeling you wouldn’t mind strolling through the Open Air French Market planned in Georgetown between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. (also Saturday). Stores along Wisconsin Ave. between P and R will offer special sidewalk sales on clothes, art, furniture, etc.
