July would be a dead time for theatergoers, if not for festivals. Thanks to them, we’ll have more than enough to keep us in our cushioned seats (or fold-up chairs, depending on the venue) this month.
Most noteworthy is the Capital Fringe Festival. The lineup, which we told you about earlier, features everything from out-of-town productions to local theatre groups. There are cabarets. There are fire-eaters. There’s a One Man Star Wars Trilogy. In other words, something for everyone. We’ll be bombarding you with coverage as the festival draws closer, but for now, check out the Fringe’s Web site.
If you’re looking for something a little more mainstream, Olney’s Potomac Theatre Festival is at its peak this month. Hedda Gabler, which we caught a few days ago and No End of Blame opened June 27, but the month still holds for us more Ibsen in the form of Enemy of The People (July 20), the abstract musical Jacques Brel (July 5) and An Experiment with An Air Pump (July 5), a play recently seen around these parts in Journeyman Theatre’s well-received production.
