The insular world of the local media may have been broken wide open by NBC 4 today, allowing us a valuable insight into what some employees at the television station think of each other.
I was perusing the news early this morning, and only quickly glanced at an NBC 4 story titled, “Some Say They Are Annoyed By Coworkers.” Not seeming like anything new, I didn’t give it much of a second thought. But upon actually reading the story a few hours later, I couldn’t help but think that someone at NBC 4 was sending a message to their co-workers. Read the article:
WASHINGTON — News4’s Wendy Rieger reported Friday that some people said the most annoying people in the world are their coworkers. Some people said that it is only a matter of time before colleagues get on their nerves when working eight hours a day in nearby cubicles.
Some people, Wendy? Seems a little thin a cover, doesn’t it? Continued the article:
Some people complained of the way their coworkers cleared their throat and chewed their food.
“His voice is so annoying — it’s like he has just too much mucus going on, and he talks all day — it’s annoying,” one person said.
“They don’t do their job, they just cause undo hardship on the other coworkers,” another person said.
“Some people can just be annoying by standing there — it doesn’t take much,” another person said.
And more:
Other examples of disturbing office behavior included digging wax of an ear with the end of a pen and then eats it, as well as passing gas while walking by a coworker’s desk.
Wow. This seems less like journalism and more like a workplace narrative. If you didn’t get the message, NBC 4, we’ll break it down for you — Wendy just doesn’t like you. Especially the gas-passers and wax-diggers. You’re the worst.
