After soundly thrashing Celtic FC in a friendly two weeks ago, MLS-leading DC United will take on another international power, only this time it’s the mighty Real Madrid. Due to scheduling conflicts at the local stadiums and Real’s already booked West Coast tour, this friendly will be played in Seattle at Qwest Field on August 9th at 11 p.m. ET. We here at DCist are bummed that we won’t be able to watch this match in person, but look forward to (hopefully) seeing some hot Beckham on Adu action.

“It is unfortunate we were not able to make arrangements for this game to be played within our market,” United spokesman Doug Hicks told the Post. “But D.C. United is always looking to face the best competition to gain experience for our team and to further our brand.” No TV details have been announced as of yet, but the club is working on it.

Viewers of the this summer’s World Cup will no doubt recognize many of the names in Real’s star-studded line-up: David Beckham, Ronaldo, Emerson, Roberto Carlos, Raúl and the recently signed Fabio Cannavaro. But before you prematurely hand the match over to the international side, you should note that United is riding a 14 game unbeaten streak in MLS action and are 15-5-3 in international friendlies. Talent aside, these types of matches generally favor United, as they’re in mid-season form while their opposition is still in pre-season mode.
