Do you ever ride the D.C. Circulator? If not, today might be the day — it’s free.

The folks over at the Circulator have spent the better part of July celebrating their first year in service, one that has seen some 1.6 million riders use one of the three lines to get to and from Capitol Hill, Georgetown, the National Mall, and the Southwest Waterfront. And while the Circulator had a bit of a rough start last July — DCist readers couldn’t help but express their hatred for the service — it seems to be happily plodding along these days, taking in 7,000 passengers a day.

We’re still on the fence about the Circulator. On the one hand, its buses are nices and the routes pretty much impossible not to understand. On the other, it seems to take away from what Metrobuses could be doing, the Georgetown to Capitol Hill run is a nightmare during rush-hour, and we still can’t figure out why they thought those dedicated bus lanes on 7th Street would be a good idea.

Either way, it’s free today, so why the heck not take a ride?
