We’re three weeks from the September 12 District primaries, the contest that will decide who will square off against who in November’s general election (even though Democrats invariably win the majority of contested seats, the Republican and Statehood Green parties also field candidates). And given the sheer number of candidates running in some races — the Ward 5 seat is being contested by 13 people; Ward 3 by 10 — getting all the information necessary to make an educated decision can be quite the task.
Along has come The Common Denominator, one of the District’s smallest independent newspapers, to save the day. The paper has kicked off a comprehensive site that lists all the candidates by race and offers a myriad of resources for voters. While the site is still a work in progress, it will eventually come to include candidate profiles and questionnaires, possibly making the process of picking a candidate easier for the city’s voters.
And yes, we’ll be first ones to admit it — their site is better than our little sidebar. But we’ll be rolling out some interesting features in the days to come, so hang on.
