The agenda’s coming in a little late this week, many appologies. Before we get into our picks, we’d like to wish a very happy 5th birthday to Jammin’ Java. The Vienna venue that started out small has come far since its beginning, earning acclaim and great acts along the way. Head on out to the ‘burbs (and if you take the metro, wear a belt), and pay Jammin’ Java a visit sometime this month. Might we suggest the Rosemont Family Reunion tonight, or Three Stars alum The Hint on Wednesday?
TUESDAY
>> Who will win the affection of the Pitchfork-reading set tonight? Regina Spektor’s anti-folk femme vocals at the 9:30 Club, or the dulcet and multifaceted indie rock of the French Kicks at the Black Cat? I for one pick the Kicks (they’re D.C. natives, after all), but either option is sure to please. Spektor fans should have thought ahead, as the show is sold out. You can still get in to see the French Kicks, The Little Ones and Baltimore’s The Oranges Band for $13 though.
>> The 9:30 Club’s offering up a late show too, in the form of Saddle Creek’s Cursive. $15, 10 p.m.
>> If you were into soundtrack rock in the 90s, then Falls Church’s State Theater has just what you’re looking for tonight with Shawn Mullins and the Gin Blossoms. Make Dawson and the cast of Empire Records proud. CORRECTION: The combo played at the State Theater last night, and tonight they’re the Ram’s Head Tavern in Baltimore.
WEDNESDAY
>> Last time we saw Ratatat, they were on tour with Interpol after their epic song “Seventeen Years” hit the airwaves. This time around, they’re bringing their eclectic take on electronic-minded rock music to the Black Cat in promotion of the recently released Classics. $12, 8:30 p.m. (Elizabeth Eckert)
>> Americana fans, you can stop watching your bootleg copy of A Prairie Home Companion to hear Old Crow Medicine Show — the real thing’s coming to the 9:30 Club. $20
>> Something’s happening at DC9 this Wednesday. We’re not sure if it’ll cost you $2 or $5, or if that’ll buy you performances from four bands or five. But we do know that whatever this event is, it’s being put on by D.C. Griots.
>> And the award for weirdest lineup of the week goes to (drumroll please) — Lisa Marie Presley and Ryan Cabrera at the Birchmere! Congratulations guys, we were pulling for you! $45, 7:30 p.m.
>> Get your home grown bluegrass with the Starlingtons at Wonderland Ballroom. With the Can Kickers from Connecticut. $5, 9 p.m.
