We’ve got not one, but two press conferences in the next hour and a half, signaling the end of the 2006 Senate races. At 3 p.m., Sen. George Allen will hold a press conference at the Carlyle House in Alexandria to concede the election to Jim Webb. At least, that’s the speculation and expectation of Democrats everywhere who are breathing sighs of relief. Though it’s likely Allen is playing nice in order to resurrect his political career in the not-too-far future, most people are probably thankful that he’s not dragging the result out into late December, had he requested a recount.

And we get a twofer! Just down the road Webb will be giving his own press conference over at the Courthouse Plaza in Arlington at 4:15 p.m., likely to thank Allen for stepping away. Or to ignore him completely like he’s been doing since Tuesday night, and announcing the rest of his staff and the rugs he bought last week in anticipation of decorating his new Senate office.

If you can make it to one or the other, leave us the juicy details in the comments. And for the rest of you, might want to consider these events before you make your commute home during rush hour.
