As any D.C. dweller knows, it’s not so easy to buy a sixer, a 750, or a fifth on Sunday within city limits. The District’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Association restricts holders of Class A Licenses — a.k.a. any store that sells wine, beer, and liquor for off-premises consumption — to sales between the hours of 9 a.m. and 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

So what of those years, such as this one, when Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve — two occasions for major alcohol purchases — fall on Sunday? Lucky for us, the local government has carved out an exception, permitting Class A license holders to sell on December 24 and December 31 when those dates fall on Sundays.

The following is a short list of purveyors and their holiday hours. By providing this information, DCist hopes to eliminate the parade of procrastinating D.C. residents dragging ass to the nether-regions of surrounding jurisdictions to stock up on the special sauce — for the next two Sundays, at least.
