Finally. After years of delays, the Old Dominion Brewhouse in the new convention center will be opening this Saturday. The convention center folks announced the opening in a press release, and mentioned food but not beer, which worried us a little — however, a quick call confirmed that they do indeed have a liquor license, avoiding similar trouble at nearby BeBar and Vegetate. We walked by the place the other day and it looked completely set up.
This is great news, as it gives people in the Shaw and booming Mt. Vernon Square areas a new place to go, and will probably draw a wider clientele than BeBar, which is a gay bar, and Vegetate, which is vegetarian. It might also serve as a catalyst for more development in an area full of vacant storefronts. We’re happy to have a new place to get beer and grub.
And there may be more coming soon, as the neighboring Mongolian restaurant and sushi bar is also under construction, and InShaw reports that it’s owned by the same person as the brewhouse. We couldn’t find a website for the D.C. Old Dominion Brewhouse, just their company page, but we did find a design for one.
The brewhouse is located at 1219 9th Street NW.
