>> As you can see in this photo submitted to the DCist Photo Pool, the building that houses Ruff N’ Ready Furnishings, 1908 14th Street NW, has been condemned by city inspectors. The building was old and certainly not in great shape, though we’ve also heard rumors that the 911 call which prompted police and fire trucks to show up was reportedly made by a man well-known to the building’s residents as a habitual drug user who may have believed the building was about to fall down only thanks to a bad drug trip. Anyone else heard anything about the building? We hope to have some more concrete answers soon. UPDATE: As a commenter already pointed out, the residents of 1910 14th St. NW have returned to their apartments, and the whole thing appears to have been a false alarm.
>> Yesterday saw the 10th highest Metro ridership ever in one day. Those of you who took Metro to the Nationals’ opening day and down to the Tidal Basin to check out the cherry blossoms at their peak contributed to the record. Those of you who took Metro for a clandestine meeting with your secret lover should be deeply ashamed. [Free Ride]
>> Tap water in D.C. is going to start tasting funny in the month of April. How this is different from any other month is still a mystery to us, but apparently it has something to do with chemicals and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, so we’ll let you come up with your own jokes for that one. [AP]
