If you haven’t noticed the ad over in the left column of our site for the last couple of weeks, allow us to formally announce our excitement over once again being an official media sponsor for Cultural Tourism DC’s WalkingTown weekend of free walking tours of the city. It’s a pretty natural fit for us to help support this great annual event, given that it’s entirely about exploring and learning about the city, and that it costs absolutely nothing — at DCist, we’re nothing if not notorious cheapskates.
For those of you still unfamiliar with Cultural Tourism DC’s walking tours, there are many different tours offered throughout the year, but the bi-annual WalkingTown weekend, being held this spring on April 21-22, includes 64 free, guided walking tours that highlight 18 different neighborhoods such as Brookland, Old Anacostia, Tenleytown, Georgetown, U Street, and Capitol Hill. Check out the full schedule of free tours being offered this year over here. We’re particularly intrigued by the tour “Art on Line: The Story Behind the Artwork at Metro Stations”.
Stay tuned to DCist between now and the WalkingTown event for a handful of previews of specific walking tours that will be on offer. And remember to register early for the popular tours that require it (though many of them don’t require reservations at all) — they always fill up quickly.
