When you think of your high school’s librarian, many things may come to mind: stern shushings, cardigans and a disdain for all children, in my case. It turns out that at least one area librarian knows how to have a good time. George Frederick Miller, who works at Westlake High School, was arrested yesterday in La Plata, Md. for growing his own marijuana at home. His 19-year-old daughter was also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana production materials. Charles County authorities clearly like to cover their bases.

Miller was cultivating 11 pot plants, which suggests he was selling it. Obviously, we’re curious whether his customers include Westlake students. The librarian seems amiable enough in this snapshot, carefully displayed on a 1995-era web page. Maybe he was just trying to get students to really see a reading rainbow. While we certainly don’t support drug use for kids, it’s stories like this that remind us that stodgy teachers who ushered us through those awkward teen years are really people too.
