TUESDAY:
Get ready for the farmer’s market season with Russ Parsons tonight at Politics and Prose, where he’ll be discussing how (and how not) to squeeze and shake for the perfect piece of fruit when he reads from How to Pick a Peach. 7 p.m.

WEDNESDAY:
Turn off the cable news and head over to Olsson’s in Dupont to hear Daniel Altman talk about Connected: 24 Hours in the Global Economy, a so-called non-partisan look at how the world works and the money travels. 7 p.m.

Stephanie Nolen will be at the Border’s on L Street to talk about her new book, 28: Stories of AIDS in Africa, involving the people “in the midst of a catastrophe.” 12:30 p.m.

THURSDAY:
Not enough freak-out in the news lately? William Langewiesche will talk about The Atomic Bazaar, about the rise of arms proliferation among the “nucelar poor,” a story that “will and should alarm people.” Fun! Politics and Prose, 7 p.m.

Aaarrrrrrrr! Colin Woodward discusses The Republic of Pirates: Being the True and Surprising Story of the Caribbean Pirates and the Man Who Brought Them Down. It’s about the rise and fall of Pirate Democracy — how can you skip that?? Olsson’s in Old Town, 7 p.m.

FRIDAY:
Space Wars is not nearly as awesome as it sounds when it’s followed by the phrase “The First Six Hours of World War III: A War Game Scenario.” Find out how the bullets will rain down from above when William B. Scott, a former U.S. Air Force flight-test engineer, and William J. Birnes read from their book at Olsson’s in Arlington. 7 p.m.

SATURDAY:
Let Melinda Henneberger tell you how you really feel when she discusses her new book, If They Only Listened To Us: What Women Voters Want Politicians to Hear. If only men didn’t immediately tune out during the first half of that title. Politics and Prose, 1 p.m.

Busboys and Poets will host the closing reception for D.C.’s Big Read at 7 p.m., followed by a film screening of the choosen book, Their Eyes Were Watching God, at 11 p.m. $3 for the film.

SUNDAY:
Stop by Politics and Prose to hear David J. Linden discuss the amazing neuron bumpercar game going on inside your brain when he reads from The Accidental Mind. 1 p.m.
