Fort Reno, the long-running summer concert series that dates back to the days when Marion Barry wasn’t dodging indictments, gives D.C.’s indie and punk faithful welcome respite from dark, dimly lit clubs, and everyone a chance to enjoy some great local bands during the long summer evenings. The stage has witnessed many amazing performances by a who’s who of local luminaries including Fugazi, Q and not U, Ted Leo and Mary Timony, and was to be the site of the Dismemberment Plan‘s original “final” show in 2003 before heavy rains indicated that maybe even God Himself wasn’t quite ready for them to break up.

While the full schedule is forthcoming, the opening concert takes place on Monday, June 18th. The lineup includes Mass Movement of the Moth, DCist favorites and Unbuckled alums Deleted Scenes (pictured), and Louisville’s and the Boom Orangutangs.

The twice weekly all-ages shows, whose crowds tend to be on the younger side, are free and lean towards indie rock and hardcore sounds. The series is held in the grassy lawn across from Wilson High School near the Tenleytown metro. Picnics, kids, and pets are allowed but leave the glass bottles and the alcohol at home. Shows begin promptly at 7:15 p.m. and are over by 9:30 p.m.

UPDATE: We originally identified local D.C. band the Boom Orangutangs incorrectly as a Lousiville band with a nearly identical name. We’ve now corrected the mistake.
