The particulars were leaked a while ago, but that doesn’t make it any less sweet: the Capitals are unveiling their new jerseys tonight, and we have to say that they look fantastic. The style of the new sweaters mimics certain aspects of their traditional jersey (worn from 1974-1995), such as the solid red base and the emphasized hockey stick as the letter “t”. Though bloggers Uni Watch gave the Caps a mixed review for their new threads, we’re going to write off their criticisms as the nitpicking of a self-confessed typography geek.

The official unveiling will be tonight (6:40 p.m.) at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, upstairs from the Ballston Common Mall. Set to coincide with the NHL draft, the party sounds like a ton of fun, but alas — it’s been sold out for quite a while. For inquiring minds without tickets, Comcast SportsNet will be covering the event.

What do you think? Do you approve of the new jerseys as we do, or do you agree with Uni Watch’s criticisms? Let us know in the comments.
