>> The Black Cat’s backstage will be a bit twangy tonight, as The Starlingtons stop by to play some of their alt-bluegrass with Portland Oregon’s folksy Casey Neill. 9 p.m., $7.

>> One of the weeks few interesting author appearances is tonight at Olsson’s in Dupont Circle, when Pushcart Prize-winning writer Katherine Taylor stops by to read from and sign copies of her debut novel, Rules for Saying Goodbye. 7 p.m.

>> It’s possible we could see a brief afternoon or evening thunderstorm, but odds are good you should be able to enjoy Screen on the Green’s offering tonight no matter what: the original 1949 film version of All the King’s Men is well worth your time, and certainly light years better than that recent Steven Zaillian hamfisted disaster that had Kate Winslet, of all people, playing Anne Stanton (though Sean Penn was of course a convincing Willie Stark). 8 p.m., call 877-262-5866 for weather updates.

>> One of John Huston’s finest films, Tennessee Williams’ The Night of the Iguana, is showing at 7 p.m. at the AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center, part of the John Huston: American Maverick series.
