You know what they say — better one scandal too late than never at all.
We’ve received word from the office of Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) that tomorrow afternoon he’ll be hosting a public roundtable on the Water and Sewer Agency, which has had something of a rough year so far. Reads an email from Graham:
I will be holding a public roundtable on the status of the public water main system in District neighborhoods on Thursday, October 4, 2007. The roundtable will be held in room 120 of the historic John A. Wilson Building at 2pm.
In the early morning of October 1, 2007, a four-alarm fire tore through the Avalon condominium building at 2627 Adams Mill Rd, NW in Adams Morgan. Fire officials have since confirmed that a lack of water pressure and volume affected their ability to combat the fire. The purpose of the public roundtable is to determine the status of WASA’s replacement of the District’s aging water main system and to determine the nature of the problem faced by the fire department.
There are several questions left to be answered and WASA clearly needs to re-evaluate their priorities.
Dennis L. Rubin, Chief of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Jerry N. Johnson, WASA General Manager, and Robin B. Martin, WASA Chairman and Principal Member, will testify at the public roundtable.
To sign up to testify, please contact Ms. LaDorsa Willis at (202) 724-8195 before 5pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2007.
We hear that frustrated residents will be able to hose WASA’s General Manager down, provided council staffers can find a working fire hydrant that has enough water pressure.
