Editor’s note: we’re starting a new feature that will highlight the hip-hop goings-on in the D.C. area. For our purposes the definition of hip-hop will be broader than it’s typically constructed, and will include R&B, soul, certain electronic, or whatever else is deemed appropriate by the author.

WEDNESDAY
>> OK. This isn’t in D.C. proper but whenever the Wu-Tang Clan is in the vicinity, you have to note it. Without question, the NYC-based Wu is the most heralded group in hip-hop history. They’ll be at Baltimore’s Ram’s Head in support of their newest album, 8 Diagrams. Doors 7 p.m., $49.50 or $85 for the loft.

>> Afi is one of the more decorated singers on the D.C. scene. The 2002 Wammie nominee has performed at numerous venues on the East Coast and released her Lovely release last year. The jazzy R&B singer will be at La Carbonara to tape a segment for BET J. Doors at 8 p.m., $10.

FRIDAY:
>> The Birchmere has put together a nice Friday night double billing featuring Angela Johnson and Eric Roberson (pictured). Johnson has penned songs, produced tracks, and established herself as a vocal force, thus making her one of the most multi-faceted artists in the business. Much like Johnson, Roberson has made a name for himself as a vocalist and songwriter. Besides his own albums, the Howard alum and frequent D.C. performer has also written hits for R&B crooners Musiq and Dwele. Doors at 7:30 p.m., $22.50.

SATURDAY:
>> If you’re willing to trek up to Baltimore again, there’s another hip-hop show that should be worth catching. Sonar will play host to former DMC champ DJ Craze, who will be on the 1s and 2s while another accomplished deejay, Roc Raida, will be holding down Sonar’s lounge. Doors at 8 p.m., $10.

SUNDAY:
>> Alexandria-based KUKU is an acoustic guitarist who goes between the sounds of his native Nigeria and the contemporary soul sounds of the U.S. Having built a following at open mic spots along U Street, he’s now been touring the country and building a following. He’ll be performing Sunday at the Arlington branch of Busboys and Poets. Doors at 7:30 p.m., $10.
