In its third season, New York based modern dance company KDNY returns to Dance Place this weekend to perform Charges from Domremy, a work inspired by Joan of Arc. In the seventy-minute work choreographed by Kathleen Dyer and performed to Richard Einhorn’s oratio Voices of Light, a cast of thirteen dancers tells the story of Joan of Arc from “the divine voices that led her into battle to her subsequent capture and condemnation by the English.”

The performance follows two weeks of master technique classes and repertory workshops in cooperation with Dance Place and George Mason University’s Dance Department. Local performers Danielle Green of Washington, D.C. and Jessica Lynn Fox of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, will perform the work with KDNY this weekend.

Women rule the stage in this contemporary dance company, which is comprised of female dancers and dedicates itself to exploring the female spirit in dance and since its establishment in 1997 has worked to showcase feminine choreography at its best. Dance Magazine has described KDNY as “clean and sharp, geometric and postmodern… a thrill to watch.”

A recent review of Charges from Domremy on ExploreDance.com called KDNY’s dancers “beautifully gifted technicians” participating in “bravely simple choreography”.

Charges from Domremy will be at Dance Place this weekend for two performances — Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 202-269-1600.
