A female employee at the Georgetown branch of the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles was arrested by the FBI this afternoon for her involvement in a scheme to sell fake driver’s licenses. NBC4 reports that the service center, located in the lower level of the Georgetown Park Mall, was shut down earlier today during the raid and that several unidentified people were taken into custody.

A similar incident took place at the same DMV service center in 2004. After a DMV teller was arrested in that raid, the D.C. DMV commissioned a service integrity officer to monitor and detect irregularities in the department, and that was the person who alerted authorities to this most recent scheme.

Officials said more arrests could be forthcoming. Mayor Adrian Fenty and DMV Director Lucinda Babers held a press conference to announce the one arrest.

It’s unclear yet whether the Georgetown DMV service center will be open tomorrow. If you have business at the DMV, we’d suggest heading to the Southwest Service Center at 95 M Street SW, which is open from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

UPDATE: Via DC Metblogs, we’ve learned that the Georgetown DMV will be open for business as usual starting tomorrow morning, Jan. 17.
