Last night D.C., Maryland, and Virginia all showed their love for Obamarama, but in all the chaos leading up to the Crab cake primary, did you forget that Valentine’s Day is just a day away? Whether you’re looking to make plans for one, two or three (we won’t ask), here are some dining and drinking options that are still available to procrastinators.
Wine and dine
Looks like Ann at the Washingtonian has kept an eagle eye on many restaurants with open reservations on Open Table. No doubt these will be snatched up quickly, so call ahead or start becoming very familiar with your F5 key.
Of the many spots serving prix-fix menus, I like Vinoteca’s 6-course meal with regular and vegetarian options. Two seatings are available at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. for $80/person (with Champagne) or $65 (without).
Keeping with the ‘V’-day theme, Vegetate is also offering a cheaper 4-course, all vegan, dinner menu with special amuse bouche for $45/person. Wine pairings for each course is available for $20. Bessie the cow would appreciate it.
And not normally open on “dark” nights for the Kennedy Center, the Roof Terrace Restaurant has put together a $75 menu 3-course menu from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Low key
If Valentine’s Day means less business casual and more T-shirt and jeans to you then try Rock and Roll Hotel’s rock bottom $40 meal for two, which includes an appetizer, entrees, fondue dessert, and bottle of champagne – extra points if you skip the flutes and drink straight from the bottle. At last check, the 6 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. slots were sold out, but a 12 a.m. slot was recently added.
Although declared as an “Un-Valentine’s Day Celebration,” but still worthy of a cheap date, Pizzeria Paradiso will be churning out your choice of an 8-inch pizza and beer (draft in Georgetown, bottle in Dupont Circle) for $14. Just tell your date it’s a “mini prix-fixe” menu.
End or start the night at ACKC on 14th street with a steaming cup of hot chocolate or a chocolate fondue pot for two. Seriously, it’s chocolate, enough said.
