It’s that time again, our best sports picks for the week. They’re either home games or good ones you can see on the old picture box. And if you’ve got any other good ones, let us know in the comments.
TUESDAY
Back from the All-Star break and hopefully rested, the Wizards face the Knicks today at Verizon. The Knicks are 1-9 over their last ten games, so even without Caron Butler (and Agent Zero – see Friday for more on that) the home team has a good shot at a win. Etan Thomas is back doing drills after his heart surgery, so maybe that’ll give the team Sorcerers some more motivation. 7 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
Hump day is a big one for local college hoops. In a semi-local battle, the resurgent Maryland Terrapins take on the Hokies of Virginia Tech at the Comcast Center (9 p.m.) and the #17 GW women look to rebound from a surprise loss to St. Bonaventure against St. Louis at 7 p.m. at the Smith Center. Will the Terps make it two wins in a row after the loss to to #2 Duke? Will GW raise their record to 21-5 and 9-2 in conference?
THURSDAY
We’re not sure if this game has a name, but we’d suggest Tidewater Tumble. Two strong Virginia women’s basketball teams, #10 Old Dominion and Virginia Commonwealth, face off in Richmond today at 7 p.m. The two teams have a combined record of 41-8, and a result either way could spell good news or bad for the area’s other ranked teams, Maryland and GW, especially if Maryland loses and GW wins their respective games.
