>> Washington Post reporter Robin Wright will appear at Politics and Prose to discuss her new book, Dreams and Shadows: The Future of the Middle East, which draws on her extensive reporting in Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Turkey, the Gulf States and the Palestinian territories. 6 p.m.
SUNDAY:
>> Consider catching a staged reading of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom at the Kennedy Center, part of their August Wilson’s 20th Century program running through April 6 in the Terrace Theater. 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 and available online.
>> The University of Maryland’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center hosts legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea and vibist Gary Burton. They’ll perform as a duo in the latest installment of a collaboration that spans over 35 years. Tickets are $40, or just $7 with a valid University of Maryland student I.D. 7:30 p.m.
>> D.C. native Alice Smith is building a name for herself on the “urban alternative” scene with the help of her 2006 release, For Lovers, Dreamers & Me. A Grammy nod and TV appearances have put her in the public eye lately. Now based out of Brooklyn, she’ll be returning home for a show at the Black Cat. 8 p.m., $15.
