MOVIE: The folks behind SILVERDOCS present a special free screening of Iron Ladies of Liberia, a documentary that profiles Africa’s first freely elected female president. One memorable scene shows President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf deftly negotiating with representatives of an angry mob of protesters outside her office. Part of the New African Films Festival. 7 p.m. at the AFI Silver Theatre. Director Siatta Scott-Johnson will introduce the film and host a Q&A after the screening.

MUSIC: School of Language, featuring David Brewis of Field Music, Ryan Rapsys of Euphone, and Doug McCombs of Tortoise, play at DC9 with Medications and Go Home Robot. 9 p.m. $10.

READING: Institute for Policy Studies Fellow Phyllis Bennis will be at Busboys and Poets in D.C. to sign and discuss her new book, Iran in the Crosshairs: How to Prevent Washington’s Next War. 6 p.m. Free.

JAZZ: Pianist/vocalist Christopher Linman, a local mainstay and music director at the Ritz Carlton, will perform at Blues Alley along with Rick Whitehead on guitar, John Previti on bass, Barry Hart on drums and Three Stars alum Thad Wilson on trumpet. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

MUSIC: It’ll be tough to scrape together tickets for tonight’s second sold-out show by The Pogues at the 9:30 Club, but Craigslist does seem to have many options. 7 p.m.
