SPOKEN WORD: Mothertongue is back for their regular spoken word night at Black Cat‘s backstage, this time with a special show by the DC Drag Kings & Burlesque Troupe. $8, 9 p.m. (Ages 18+ only)

KARAOKE: Fans of Wonderland’s defunct Kostume Karaoke night, rejoice: the monthly event has been resurrected by a group of karaoke diehards at Solly’s Tavern on U Street. Tonight marks the event’s third appearance at its new venue (it happens every second Wednesday now), featuring an even bigger selection of songs, and of course, a stack of costumes and accessories for karaoke participants to wear while they’re performing. Karaoke gets underway at 8 p.m.

BEER: The Brickskeller is hosting a Scottish Real Ale in Cask tasting tonight at 7 p.m. Bruce Williams, brewer of Scotland’s Heather Ale and Williams Brothers beers, will be on hand to introduce eight real ales shipped directly from brewtanks in Scotland. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online.

CLASSICAL: Chinese pianist Yundi Li performs in the Music Center at Strathmore. The selection of music includes Berg, Ginastera, Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. 8 p.m. A few tickets ($80 to $35) remain, too.

SPORTS: The Capitals take on the first-place Calgary Flames in a crucial meeting at the Verizon Center. 7 p.m., buy tickets here.
