FRIDAY:
>> The Schubert, Schubert, and Schubert festival is back this year at Georgetown’s Gaston Hall, with three top-notch concerts by the Auryn Quartet and friends (tonight, Saturday, and Sunday, 8 p.m.), playing music by Schubert and other Romantic composers. Our classical music contributor has praised the Auryn Quartet before, and the chance to hear one or all of these concerts is warmly recommended. Not least because the tickets, thanks to underwriters, are an incredible $5 each, or $10 for all three concerts. Arrange your tickets in advance by calling the organizer at (301) 699-5440, or buy a ticket at the door.
>> Legendary DJ, producer, and global electronica icon Cheb i Sabbah ends his long absence from the District by throwing his Devotion CD Release party at Liv. Check out our interview with Sabbah here. He’ll be joined by San Francisco DJ Janaka Selekta and locals V:shal Kanwar, Mr. Darko and Julez and proceeds from the event will benefit Race Against Domestic Violence. 21+. 9 p.m. $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
>> Downstairs, Bohemian Caverns is home to another great set of shows tonight and Saturday, as powerhouse tenor saxophonist Tim Warfield pays a visit to the historic club. In addition to several first rate releases as a bandleader, Warfield has played as a sideman with many of today’s younger generation of jazz stars. Tickets to the 9 and 11 p.m. sets are $20.
>> Unfortunately, Unbuckled alums Pela have canceled their show at the Rock and Roll Hotel. You can, however, still catch a full night of tuneful local flavor in that same dark yet poppy vein with Greenland, Bellflur, The Coats and The Shakes. 9 p.m. $10.
>> Or if you just feel like dancing, DJs Mister Disco and Starrscream reprise last month’s indie pop and dance punk party, Ready Already, at The Red and the Black. 9:30 p.m. $5.
SATURDAY:
>> The Adamson Gallery hosts an opening reception for The Sartorialist, an exhibition of prints by Scott Schuman of the famed street fashion blog by the same name. The show presents some of Schuman’s best photographs. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The other galleries in the 1515 14th Street NW building are also hosting openings: Dan Steinhilber at G Fine Art, Charles Cohan at Curator’s Office, and Franz Janzten and Martin Kotler at Hemphill Fine Arts.
>> Atlanta flower-punks The Black Lips bring their high-energy raw-as-hell stage show back to the Black Cat. First two rows beware: Cole Alexander has a tendency to spit water high up into the air. And it doesn’t necessarily fall straight down. The antics don’t stop there. Quintron and Miss Pussycat and Hollywood open. 9 p.m. $13.
SUNDAY:
>> The Wiz game on Saturday is a bit of a stinker, but the Caps game on Sunday vs. the Bruins (3 p.m.) gives them a shot at a rival still within striking distance. After the game, the Caps begin a 6-game road trip before heading back to the Verizon Center for their final three games. It’s possible that Sunday’s game will be the last time this season that the Caps play a meaningful home game. Pick up tickets here.
>> Mark Ronson helped hip the world to D.C.’s Wale and he’s now back on his home turf along with Kokayi and SPP (Storm tha Unpredictable, Priest Da Nomad, and Po-emcees) for a 9:30 Club appearance. 7:30 p.m., $15.
>> People who are not necessarily Irish but do love drinking to excess will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend. We are afraid of those people, and will probably try not to be within 50 feet of an Irish-themed bar anywhere in the city. If you feel differently, feel free to put your suggestions on where to go drink green beer in the comments. We do, however, love a good parade, so don’t forget to head out to see this year’s Washington D.C. St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will travel along Constitution Ave. beginning at noon. UPDATE: Dur, yeah, I totally forgot that we have the comments turned off on these sponsored posts. So, if you have Picks suggestions, why not add them to the DCist Exposed reminder two posts below? Thanks!
