
MOVIE: John Frankenheimer’s action-packed 1964 WWII drama, The Train, is at the AFI Silver at 6:30 p.m. The film stars Burt Lancaster in one of the classic normal guy thrown into extraordinary circumstances roles.

READING: Eric Alterman, controversial media columnist for The Nation, will appear at Politics and Prose to discuss the post-Bush White House and how Democrats will be involved — the topic of his book Why We’re Liberals. 7 p.m.
ART: The Adamson Gallery hosts a special reception for The Sartorialist, an exhibition of prints by fashion blogger Scott Schuman — and Schuman himself will be there tonight, unlike at Saturday’s official opening. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and don’t be caught dead wearing something non-fabulous.
HAPPY HOUR: The Red and the Black had to stop hosting their shot and a haircut because of a hairdressing license issue, but the H Street bar is starting a new promotion: Ninja Warrior/American Gladiator Happy Hour. From 5 to 8 every weeknight, they’re offering $2.25 rail drinks and $1 kamikaze shooters whenever a contestant moves to a higher level in one of the two mesmerizing competition shows.
