Eels singer/songwriter Mark Oliver Everett (aka. E) is extending an olive branch, of sorts, to President Bush, who according to Everett has blasted the band’s music in the past as “a bad example for the kids of America.”
In a letter to the president dated March 10, Everett invites the president and first lady to come to the band’s March 29 show at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, adding, “if you come to the show, I would be happy to give you complimentary copies of our brand new best of and rarities CDs … (which feature some of the very tracks your campaign used as bad examples for our country’s youth).”
Everett is referring to the band’s 2000 album, Daisies of the Galaxy, which features a song titled “It’s A Motherf#&!@r”. The song helped earn the album a parental advisory sticker (sample lyric: “It’s a motherf**ker/Being here without you/Thinking ’bout the good times/Thinkin ’bout the bad”). The band released a remixed version of the song titled “It’s a Monster Trucker” to poke fun at the parental advisory warning.
