MONDAY:

Former Saturday Night Live writer and zombie survival expert, Max Brooks, will appear at Washington DCJCC’s Aaron and Cecile Goldman Theater to talk about the coming zombiepocalypse — the subject of his book World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. If you can’t make it, just remember that a lawnmower may look like a really cool weapon against the undead, but it’s not useful in all situations. 8 p.m.

Detroit-based author Toby Barlow will appear at the Georgetown Barnes and Noble to talk about his novel, Sharp Teeth, the story of an ancient race of lycanthropes that have set up shop in the criminal underworld of Los Angeles. Unlike zombies, the means of disposing of a werewolf are restricted to weapons made of silver. Or you could always blow them up. Mondays are apparently good for random horror movie references. 7:30 p.m.

The Washington Post Book World and PEN Faulkner will host an evening with Chinua Achebe to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the publication of his novel, Things Fall Apart. The Washington Post building, 6:30 p.m.
