Good morning, Washington. It’s April 15, the day procrastinators all over the country scramble to make things right with their Uncle Sam, and the day when District of Columbia residents are reminded that they have to pay their share of federal taxes without getting the same congressional representation as every other American. Don’t forget to join up with the folks at DC Vote today for their “Taxed Without Representation” Day events on Capitol Hill. Choose from dropping by the Union Station Metro station from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Dirksen Senate Building from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., or the National Capitol Post Office from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. More details here.

Who Should Have Caught the Tax Office Fraud?: The Examiner (which has a redesigned web site!) reports that the D.C. Council is still not satisfied with BDO Seidman, the firm the city contracts with to perform its annual audits. Seidman has charged the city an extra $1.5 million extra for an audit that took an additional two months to finish in the wake of the Office of Tax and Revenue scandal. Members of Council, including Chairman Vincent Gray, say the additional fees are insulting considering the firm failed to detect the fraud in previous years. Seidman insists the embezzlement scheme was a “failure of the management of the District” and was “simply not an audit issue.”

Nats Park Readies for Pope: The Post has all the details on how Nationals Park is being transformed in preparation for Pope Benedict XVI’s mass there on Thursday. Workers are installing flooring over the outfield, tarps have been draped over advertising messages inside the ballpark, and a 75-foot-tall altar is being constructed in centerfield.
